If a specific page on a site does not load for some reason or if a link is not working, the website visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the Internet site, that can make the visitor leave your Internet site. A potential solution in this case is a feature made available from some hosting providers - the option to set up your own customized error pages which shall have the same layout as your Internet site and that can contain any text or images which you want dependent upon the specific error. There are four standard errors that could take place and they involve these so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your web browser sends a bad request to the server and it can't be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see some web page, but you haven't done this yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to see a certain page; and 404, if a link which you have clicked leads to a file which does not exist. In all of these situations, website visitors will be able to see your custom content instead of a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Website Hosting
You'll be able to set up customized error pages for each of your sites with ease if you use any of our Linux website hosting. This can easily be done through the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, offered with all accounts and when you go there, you can set your custom made pages independently for any domain or subdomain. You need to upload the files to your account in advance and enter the links to them during the process. This function may be de-activated whenever you want and the options you will be able to pick from are a conventional page from our system or a default Apache web server page. Customized error pages can be set with an .htaccess file too. The file should be placed in the domain or subdomain folder and it must include some system code and links to the pages. If you aren't tech-savvy, you may copy the entire content needed for the file from our Help section.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you host your web sites in a semi-dedicated server account from our company, you may set custom error pages for each of them easily through our in-house created Hepsia hosting CP. With a few mouse clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you can modify the default setting from a system page to a custom one for each of the 4 error types. All you need to do is supply a link to each file that you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you shall be able to revert this modification anytime and in exactly the same way. If you wish, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It has to be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder linked to the site whose error pages you would want to change and the content for this sort of file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
